What We Do

Who are we: ‘The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers is committed to improving the lives of North America’s electrical workers and their families.  With more than 725,000 members, the IBEW is among the world’s strongest labor organizations, representing workers in a range of skilled occupations in a wide variety of fields, including utility, telecommunications, broadcasting, manufacturing, government, and railroad. Formed in 1891, we have earned our reputation as the oldest, largest, and most professional electrical union in the world.’

IBEW LOCAL 1426: The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 1426 was formed in Grand Forks in 1944.  We have over 900 members in Utility, Construction, Government, and Satellite TV.  We have over 20 contracts that we help negotiate and maintain that improve the lives of the men and women of the IBEW.  With the efforts of our members we continue to grow and secure good benefits and retirement securities. As union members, we bargain collectively with our employers over wages, benefits, working conditions and safety.  Most of us have very limited bargaining power as one person, but as a group, we are strong. And, with a good negotiated contract, we have legal protections we would not have otherwise.
